Subcircle (at the time, just Niki and Jorge Cousineau) curated a group of creator-performers to design their own spaces within the GIANT (and at the time relatively new) Icebox space in Philly. Audiences would pick a path (right or left) and move from room to room, experiencing each uniquely created space, and then eventually passing the other group of audience people somewhere in the middle of their journey. The ceiling of most of the spaces were open which allowed sound to bleed from room to room, by design. It was huge. We used every inch of that 5,000 sqft cavernous room.

I was honored and also a bit intimidated by who else was on board though. Matt Saunders (of New Paradise fame at the time), Christy Lee (founding member of MOXIE that was the foundation of Nichole Canuso Dance), Gin Macllum (formerly of Group Motion), James Sugg (every award-winning creator), Olase Freeman (who had danced with Jane Comfort and Creach Dance), and of course the beloved Niki Cousineau. So in a bit of a panic, I phoned a friend, Marc Teer. Back before he founded the hugely successful Black Spectacles in Chicago, he was my architect friend that I danced and partied with in high school. I called and said something along the lines of Can you help me with this project? It requires a space-design eye, one which I don’t think I have. He said yep I’ll be right there. Still Unknown was the biggest project I had participated in at that time, and the first collaboration with Marc.
